After narrowly avoiding relegation to the third tier last season, Doncaster Rovers have started their 2011/12 campaign with their tendency to flirt with the drop apparently unabated.
Collecting just one point from an available 21, Sean O’Driscoll’s side desperately need to get some wins under their belt before they become detached from the rest of the division.
On Saturday, they play their fourth home game of the season against 12th-placed Crystal Palace, who have three wins and three losses from their opening seven matches.
All of Palace’s losses have come against sides sitting higher in the table than themselves and both games versus teams in the lower reaches (albeit at home) have ended in wins for the Eagles.
As previously mentioned, the Yorkshire club will need to start picking up maximum points from as many fixtures as possible if they are to stave off a dogfight.
And while a repeat of last season’s 0-0 at the Keepmoat Stadium will double Rovers’ points tally, it would still leave them at least three points behind the side above them.
However, with Doncaster struggling for goals (they have only scored two in the league so far), Palace only conceding an average of just above one a game and the Eagles having scored four goals on their travels, even a draw (11/5) looks beyond the home side.
A Doncaster win (7/5) certainly looks out of the question, leaving a Palace victory as the best option at odds of 37/20 in bwin’s 3Way football betting market.
With this in mind, a 1-0 or 2-0 win for Dougie Freedman’s charges look like good calls, with these scorelines priced at 15/2 and 13/1 respectively.
A successful £25 free bet on Crystal Palace to win 1-0 would swell your bank balance by a cool £212.50, with the free bet available to new customers who sign up for a bwin account.
Alternatively, punters could back the Eagles to win 1-0, 2-0 or 3-0 in the multiple correct score market at odds of 15/4.
