Last weekend’s thrilling 3-2 win over Crystal Palace was a signal of intent for a Derby County team who, despite periods of patchy form this season, remain in the hunt for promotion to the Premier League.
The Rams will be eager to build on that success against a Bristol City side who have conceded as many goals at you have had proverbial hot dinners this season.
Their high scoring win against Palace was the third victory with over 2.5 goals in four attempts for Derby and that run could well continue against City.
After all, the Bristolians have proven inept defensively of late, with five of their last eight defeats seeing at least three goals scored against them and six of those eight games seeing over 2.5 goals.
The recent history of encounters between the two teams suggests a 45 minute nap could be advised this Saturday, with under 1.5 goals scored in the first half of each of the last seven meetings between the clubs.
Last time the teams met, Nigel Clough’s side came out on top with a 2-1 win, adding to the potential for a repeat at Ashton Gate.
Backing Derby County to win with over 2.5 goals scored, at odds of 19/4, would see anyone using bwin’s free £25 bet for registering walk away with winnings of £143.75.
That said, the recent history of encounters between the two teams suggests a 45 minute nap could be advised this Saturday, with under 1.5 goals scored in the first half of each of the last seven meetings between the clubs.
Anyone looking for a half time banker bet could therefore opt for under 1.5 goals, which is available at a reasonable 2/5.
Failing this, a bet on the Rams to open the scoring against Bristol City looks a good tip. Derby have scored the opener in three of their last four league games, while Robins fans have endured yet more misery on their own doorstep having fallen behind in five of their last six home games in the Championship.
With much of the talk focusing on City’s defensive frailties, it may also be important to note that the Reds have scored and conceded in four of their last five at Ashton Gate and you can get odds of 3/4 on both teams scoring here, which could see you make the most of any defensive mayhem.
But having said all this, Bristol City are actually 23/20 favourites to win the match in bwin’s 3Way football betting market, with the draw at 11/5.
Even so, upwardly-mobile Derby remain the best bets at 23/10 to cause more damage to the Robin’s survival aspirations.
Recommended bet: Derby County to win with over 2.5 goals in the game @ 9/2
