Having already found themselves in the relegation zone, and with only one victory to their name, Coventry City enter this weekend’s fixture with little to celebrate.
Reading, too, face problems of their own. While they may have ended their four-match losing streak to bottom-placed Doncaster last weekend, a five point gulf between themselves and the play-off positions has already materialised.
Both teams will be viewing this game as a chance to kick-start their seasons, and odds of 21/10 for a Coventry City victory and 13/10 for Reading to win reflect the likely openness of the game.
Fans expecting a lively start to the match may, however, be disappointed. All twelve of the goals registered by both teams in the Championship this season have been scored in the second half, with seven of these coming in the final 20 minutes.
As such, new bwin punters should strongly consider using their free £25 bet to back there being over 2.5 goals in the second half at 4/1 and win £125 if successful
This second-half rally is most likely to benefit the Royals, who established themselves early on as last-minute entertainers with three goals in the final five minutes of their first two Championship games.
At the same time, late defensive frailties, as displayed by the two last-minute goals conceded against Crystal Palace in August, continue to plague Andy Thorn’s team.
With this in mind, backing Reading to be victorious following a draw at half time in the HT/FT market at 9/2 looks a sensible bet.
To make matters worse for Coventry, their lack of firepower up front is clear for all to see, having only managed to hit the net four times in seven games – the second worst record in the league.
History does not provide much comfort for them either, with Coventry managing only one goal in their past five meetings against Reading. Odds of 11/4 for Reading to win to nil are therefore enticing.
Either way, punters should expect further grey skies to hover over the Ricoh Arena come 4:45pm on Saturday.
