Saturday’s game at the Ricoh Arena sees basement club Coventry City host a Brighton and Hove Albion side who have impressed in the first half of their returning season in the Championship.
Unsurprisingly given their league position, nobody has scored fewer times in the division than Coventry. Their 1-0 Boxing Day victory against fellow strugglers Bristol City was their first win in twelve outings.
Those three points will no doubt give the struggling Sky Blues a much needed boost, but with four of their next five games coming against top half opposition, a significant addition to that total looks unlikely.
With both teams having dubious claims for the victory, the draw looks the best bet.
Nevertheless, Coventry are level with Brighton at 33/20 for the win in bwin’s 3Way football betting market. The draw is priced at 21/10.
Brighton’s current league position (11th) is indicative of their form of late. The Seagulls followed three narrow victories with three defeats, all coming to teams in and around the play-off places.
The south coast club failed to hit the net in those defeats and of all the teams in the top half of the Championship, only Crystal Palace have scored fewer in the last eight games.
Record signing Craig Mackail-Smith has failed to register in four games and will be hoping to end a frustrating month by rediscovering his goalscoring touch.
However, seeing as these teams have scored a combined total of one goal in their last three games, the offer of 6/1 for the 0-0 final score looks intriguing. Punters who use their free £25 bet for this will see a return of £175 if the game ends goalless.
Either way, with both teams having dubious claims for the victory, the draw looks the best bet.
