After generally mediocre campaigns for both sides a good run of recent form from Derby County and Ipswich Town will have their fans dreaming of a last-minute run at the play-offs.
Nigel Clough’s team have picked up 15 points from the last possible 18 to leave them eight points shy of a play-off berth with a one-point advantage over their latest visitors.
The Tractor Boys have had even better recent form, with just one defeat in the eight games they played in March to finally turn their high-scoring approach into solid points.
With both teams craving the victory, Derby start as slight favourites at 7/4 in bwin’s 3Way football betting market, with an Ipswich away win priced at 29/20 and the draw at 9/4.
Derby’s play-off push has been built on their form at Pride Park but it has very much been a win or bust mentality with no draws in the past 10 games and it’s 1/4 for a winner in the double chance market.
If the Rams lead at half-time then they will be well placed to leave with all three points, having never lost when leading at the break at home this year, and it’s 7/2 for that run to continue.
Clough will need his side to have their shooting boots on as goals can generally be expected in Ipswich matches.
The Suffolk side have been involved in the second-most Championship matches with three goals or more, making it worth backing over 2.5 goals at 83/100.
Having said that, the reverse fixture in December was one occasion where Paul Jewell’s team kept things tight and emerged with a 1-0 win.
New customers using the free £25 bet they receive when joining bwin.com would win £231.25 if that result is repeated at Pride Park.
Though with both sides in good form, it seems likely either Derby or Ipswich will find enough to keep their play-off hopes alive even if they fall behind, making lead-draw another interesting option at 3/1.
But Derby’s impressive home form just gives them edge for me and those 7/4 odds looks decent enough to put down a small stake on another Rams triumph.
Recommended bet: Derby to beat Ipswich @ 7/4
