Southampton strengthened their position at the top of the Championship over the weekend with an impressive 3-0 win over fellow promotion chasers Middlesbrough. The Saints are three points clear of second-placed West Ham after Sam Allardyce’s men scored an entertaining 3-2 triumph over Leicester.
As usual, though, there are plenty of teams in the hunt for play-off positions, with just six points separating Crystal Palace in third and Reading, who sit 16th. So expect plenty of movement in the table after the latest round of fixtures are completed. Read on to see what you should be backing with your free £25 bet for joining bwin.com.
Tuesday 1st November
Barnsley v Hull City (7.45pm)
Key stat: Hull have a strong record away to teams in the bottom half under boss Nigel Pearson with a 9-5-2 record, only failing to score twice. Six of their seven away games this term have featured less than 2.5 goals. Five of Barnsley’s seven home games have also been under 2.5 goals, three of which have been defeats.
Betting tip: Hull to win in game with fewer than 3.5 goals @ 11/5
Burnley v Leicester (7.45pm)
Key stat: With Sven gone, assessing Leicester is difficult so I’ll look at Saturday’s match at West Ham, where they adopted a much more attacking philosophy, playing three up front and losing 3-2. Burnley are averaging three goals a game at Turf Moor.
Betting tip: Over 3.5 goals @ 11/5
Doncaster v Middlesborough (7.45pm)
Key stat: Middlesborough have the second best away record (13 points), yet have scored just seven goals in seven games, conceding six. Doncaster have just four home goals to their name this term.
Betting tip: Under 1.5 goals @ 39/20
Millwall v Coventry (7.45pm)

Nottingham Forest v Reading (7.45pm)
Key stat: Reading’s away record has been very solid, posting a 3-2-2 record to pick up 11 points (5th best). Forest have won just one home game this term, new manager Steve Cotterill’s first game in charge, and have kept just one clean sheet.
Betting tip: Reading draw no bet @ 21/20
Southampton v Peterborough United (7.45pm)
Key stat: Wherever these teams go, goals follow. Both teams have had six games that have produced over 3.5 goals and both teams are averaging well over three goals a game.
Betting tip: Over 3.5 goals @ 23/20
Watford v Brighton & Hove Albion (7.45pm)
Key Stat: Watford have lost four home games already this season and have failed to keep a clean sheet. Brighton have wobbled recently but have picked up 11 points away from home and will see this as a chance to get back on track.
Betting tip: Brighton to win @ 17/10
West Ham v Bristol City (7.45pm)
Key stat: West Ham have scored 12 goals in their last five home matches, winning four. Over 45% of West Ham’s goals have come in the first half hour of matches. Bristol City are yet to keep a clean sheet, have conceded 14 away goals (only Doncaster have let in more) and have lost all three games against sides currently in the top half.
Betting tip: West Ham/West Ham HT/FT double result @ 91/100
Crystal Palace v Portsmouth (8.00pm)
Key stat: Crystal Palace are unbeaten at home against teams in the bottom half, posting a 2-2-0 record and conceding just two goals. Portsmouth have the worst away record in the division, losing five times and keeping just one clean sheet.
Betting tip: Crystal Palace to win @ 11/10
Wednesday 2nd November
Derby County v Cardiff (7.45pm)
Key stat: Cardiff have won only one away game but have drawn four – all 1-1. Derby have drawn two home games by the same scoreline and have a mixed 1-1-1 record at home to the top half.
Betting tip: Derby and Cardiff to draw 1-1 @ 11/2
Leeds United v Blackpool (7.45pm)
Key stat: Blackpool have won only one away game all term – an opening-day victory at poor hosts Hull – and have shipped 13 goals (only Doncaster and Bristol City have worse records). Only Southampton (21) have won more home points than Leeds’ 14.
Betting tip: Leeds to win and over 2.5 goals to be scored @ 19/10
