A depleted Cardiff City (33/20) look set to struggle to contain free-scoring league leaders Southampton (3/2) in tonight’s Championship fixture.
The Saints dropped points for only the second time this season at the weekend after they were held 1-1 by Burnley at Turf Moor, while Cardiff and Leicester both fired blanks in a drab Sunday lunchtime affair.
But the damage of that draw on Malky Mackay’s side could yet prove far greater than the two points lost. Craig Conway, Rob Earnshaw, Mark Hudson and Rudy Gestede all picked up injuries that may keep them out of the clash with Southampton.
But even allowing for Cardiff’s potential selection crisis it won’t be plain sailing for Nigel Adkins’ side. Cardiff are unbeaten in their last seven games, with four of their last five games ending as draws.
Another draw is priced at 23/10 in bwin’s 3Way football betting market.
However, a Saints win would see them off to their best start to a league campaign in 58 years.
They are therefore likely to start quickly and, as they hold a 100 per cent record when scoring first this season, an early goal could see them lead at half-time and see the game out to win at full-time (3/1).
Meanwhile, four of Southampton’s eight games this season have contained more than 3.5 goals and having notched 20 goals already, they will fancy their chances of scoring tonight.
Cardiff haven’t been quite as open this season, but with Kenny Miller in their team alongside Peter Whittingham (ten assists, 11 goals last season) and Don Cowie (four goals this season) they are also able to score freely. This makes over 3.5 goals an attractive bet at odds of 31/20.
All these factors point to a high-scoring and entertaining game and odds of 22/1 on the Saints prevailing 3-2 could well be worth a bet as they look to extend their lead at the summit.
This means punters who use their free £25 bet for joining bwin on this scoreline could win £575 if it comes in.
