Since securing promotion to the Championship, Southampton have been in sensational form winning six out of their first seven league games.
They recovered from their sole loss to Leicester with a crushing 4-1 win over Birmingham last weekend and are 6/5 favourites in bwin’s 3Way football betting market to continue that good form against Burnley, who sit fifth from bottom.
The home side are 21/10 to pull off what would be a surprise victory given the sides’ respective results so far this season, with the draw priced at 23/10.
Last weekend’s victory for the Saints was Nigel Adkins’ 100th victory as a manager, with the former Scunthorpe boss having racked up a remarkable 38 wins in 54 games since taking over at St Mary’s back when Southampton were languishing in 22nd place in League One.
In that time Saints have never lost a game in which they have led at half time and have won the last ten times they have gone into the break in front.
With this in mind, a bet on Southampton to be winning at the interval and at the final whistle in bwin’s halftime/fulltime market represents a good option at odds of 12/5.
New customers using the £25 free bet available when signing up to a bwin account would win £85 if there were a Southampton/Southampton outcome.
Those wins also tend to be high scoring, with three goals or more being scored in 75 per cent of Saints’ games this season, making odds of 21/10 for Southampton to win and over 2.5 combined goals being scored a real tempter.
Odds of 9/2 for a Southampton win in a game featuring over 3.5 goals, as has happened in their last two games, are also worth considering.
Burnley on the other hand will want to keep the game tight having only scored two goals or more four times in their last 20 games.
The Clarets are usually decent at home and gained a confidence-boosting Carling Cup win over MK Dons in midweek.
Even though they haven’t lost to Saints in the last three games at Turf Moor, their best chance of victory appears to be if Southampton fail to score and a Burnley win to nil is priced 9/2 with bwin.
