Both Brighton and Leeds will be aiming to bounce back from Carling Cup disappointment this evening as they resume league duties in what looks set to be an entertaining fixture.
Gus Poyet’s Brighton squad will be put to the test having had just one day’s rest after their narrow 2-1 defeat to Liverpool at the Amex on Wednesday night, but the Seagulls head into this match as favourites with a home win priced at 11/10.
While they matched their Premier League opponents for much of the 90 minutes, Brighton were undone by two clinical finishes from Kenny Dalglish’s men, but their display more than demonstrated that they will be a force this season.
Having tasted defeat in the league for the first time last weekend after a 1-0 loss away at Leicester, Brighton will be keen to ensure their early season momentum, which consists of five wins from seven, does not falter further against a side they have not defeated in their last six attempts.
Leeds head into this fixture on the back of a 3-0 drubbing at home to Manchester United on Tuesday evening, but will be buoyed by two league wins on the spin, and are priced at 23/10 to become the first side to take maximum points at the Amex this season, with the draw also at 23/10.
While goals have not been hard to come by for Simon Grayson’s side having notched sixteen in seven league fixtures, they are yet to record a clean sheet, and come up against a team that, like themselves, have failed to score just once in a Championship fixture so far this campaign.
Odds of 11/20 for both teams to find the back of the net therefore look like something of a banker.
Meanwhile, the chances of over 2.5 goals should also be considered at 7/10, not least because six of Leeds’ matches in the league so far have involved three or more goals.
A successful £25 free bet on there to be more than 2.5 goals would return £42.50, with the free bet available to new customers who sign up for a bwin account.
Further pointers towards a goal-fest in front of the TV cameras include United’s Ross McCormack’s seven goals so far this season and the excellent starts to the campaign made by the Seagulls’ Craig Mackail-Smith and Ashley Barnes.
