Two of last season’s relegated clubs face each other in a Championship clash at Ewood Park tonight when Blackburn host Bolton in a Lancashire derby.
Blackburn are priced up at 23/20 to win the match, Bolton are 11/5 and the draw is a 23/10 chance in Bwin’s 3Way football betting market.
But while Rovers are favourites, their home form is becoming something of an issue this season and is one of the reasons why they are only ninth in the Championship table.
They have only won two of their last six at Ewood Park (both 1-0 victories) and have recorded just one win in their last five league fixtures overall. That came against rock bottom Peterborough when Jordan Rhodes once again stole the show. Blackburn were soundly beaten by in-form Millwall on Saturday, going down to a 2-0 home defeat.
That said, things aren’t any better at Bolton. The Trotters might be avoiding defeat but they’re not winning: they picked up a last-gasp point at Brighton on Saturday to make it four draws on the bounce in the Championship, leaving them down in 18th in the table.
What’s more, Bolton have only won one away game all season, that coming against a Sheffield Wednesday side who couldn’t buy a win early in the season.
So where does that leave us? One point of note is that Bolton are usually good for a goal on the road – they’ve scored in every single league fixture on their travels this season save for their first match of the campaign at Turf Moor. With Blackburn boasting the in-form Rhodes in attack, backing both teams to score is therefore an option at 3/5.
But with the two sides struggling for form and Bolton’s run of draws to take into consideration, backing another game without a winner looks to be the stand-out play at 23/10. And as Bolton’s last two games finished 1-1, a punt on a similar scoreline could also be worth a go at 21/4.
