Unbeaten in over a month and with five straight wins behind them, Birmingham City are 23/20 favourites to beat Leeds United this evening.
Touted as relegation contenders four weeks ago, Birmingham are slowly moving back into promotion contention and could go as high as second if they win their games in hand over the teams at the top of the table.
And although they are facing another team with promotion aspirations in Leeds this evening, Birmingham’s recent form suggests they should have enough to record another victory at St Andrews.
They might have been as low as 17th as recently as the beginning of the month, but Birmingham have yet to be beaten at home in the league, with Chris Hughton’s side having picked up three wins and a draw from their four matches.
Impressively, the Blues have only conceded one goal in this time, meaning they are better placed than all other teams in the Championship to deal with Leeds’ attacking threat in away games.
With 13, Simon Grayson’s side have scored more goals on their travels than anyone else in the division, a fact reflected in their short odds of 31/100 to hit the back of the net this evening.
With this in mind, there is a good chance Birmingham will have to score at least twice to secure all three points, making a combination of home win and over 2.5 goals a good bet at odds of 9/4.
A successful £25 free bet on Birmingham to secure victory in a match with over 2.5 goals would return £81.25.
Hughton will certainly be confident that his side can score at least twice given he has the in-form Chris Burke and Chris Wood at his disposal.
Burke has scored five goals in the Blues’ last six games, while Wood has notched four times in the same period to help Birmingham score at least twice in each of their last five matches.
And with all of Leeds’ league matches this season containing more than 2.5 goals, a game with three or more goals looks nailed on, making a final score of 2-1 to the home team at 31/4 an attractive option.
Meanwhile, those who fancy a Leeds win can back the Whites to inflict a first defeat on Birmingham at 11/5, with a draw available at 23/10 in bwin’s 3Way football betting market.
