Though Birmingham may no longer be the Championship’s hottest club, their fans are still enjoying life more than those down the road at the Ricoh Arena.
While Blues’ season was a slow burner before Boxing Day saw them embark on an an 11-match unbeaten run, the Sky Blues’ campaign has never got going.
On four occasions this term, Coventry have lost three straight matches, with one of those sequences incorporating a 1-0 loss to Birmingham in the reverse fixture at St Andrews.
Chris Hughton’s team are favourites to repeat that triumph at 21/20 in bwin’s 3Way football betting market, with a Coventry upset at 27/10 and the draw also priced at 21/10.
A January goalfest aside, tight defence has been at the heart of Birmingham’s form, having kept 12 clean sheets.
It’s 11/5 for Blues to win to nil again and with Coventry averaging well under a goal a game, odds of 23/10 for Hughton’s side to pick up their 11th win this term by 1-0, 2-0 or 3-0 also looks good value.
New customers using the free £25 bet they receive when joining bwin.com would win £82.50 if this game finishes by any of those three scorelines.
Even when they do score big, Birmingham save their goals for after the break with over half coming in the last 30 minutes of games and it’s 31/20 for Blues to score more in the second half of this one than the first.
However, Coventry have tended to grow into games as well, as their last three goals have all come after the 80th minute and they will hope to exploit a Birmingham side coming off a tough midweek game against Chelsea in this early kick-off.
If the Sky Blues can keep things tight until late it’s worth backing them to snatch a point and lead-draw is available at 17/5 in the run of play market.
However, luck hasn’t often been with Andy Thorn’s team this season and even if it does stay tight, Birmingham should still edge it, meaning a Blues win and under 2.5 goals may be the best value bet at 16/5.
Recommended bet: Birmingham to win 1-0, 2-0 or 3-0 @ 23/10
Outside punt: Birmingham to win a game of under 2.5 goals @ 16/5
