Hull City host Bristol City at the KC Stadium on Saturday hoping to continue with their Championship play-off push.
Nick Barmby’s men are currently in seventh place and come into this clash on a three-match unbeaten run, while also having a game in hand on the teams above them.
Their opponents have lost their last two games against Reading and Leeds United and are sitting just above the relegation zone in 20th place.
With the superior current form and home advantage, I think Hull will end up with the three points in this one. They are priced at 3/4 to win, while the Robins are at 4/1 and the draw – which was the outcome when the sides met at Ashton Gate earlier this season – is available at 9/4.
Interestingly, both sides seem to be involved in games which contain more goals after half-time.
Of the 53 goals scored in Hull’s league matches this term, 67.9% have arrived in the second 45 minutes, while that figure is an almost identical 68.2% for Bristol City’s fixtures.
Hull have been drawing in 16 of their 28 matches going into half-time and Bristol City have been drawing 15 times, so 21/20 on this one being level at the interval looks a fair price.
Looking at these statistics, it makes sense to back the second half to feature more goals than the first at odds of 6/5, or just simply bet on over 1.5 goals in the second half at 29/20.
Punters who back two or more goals to be scored after the break with their free £25 bet for joining bwin.com would win £61.25 if this happens.
Another intriguing angle is that Hull have been drawing in 16 of their 28 matches going into half-time and Bristol City have been drawing 15 times, so 21/20 on this one being level at the interval looks a fair price.
If the double result market interests you, it could be worth plumping for the Tigers to win after a drawn first half, which is available at 18/5.
This is taking into account those first-half records, plus the fact that if only the second half of matches counted, the Robins would be languishing at the bottom of the table.
They have conceded 41 goals and 30 of them have been after the break, while Barmby’s boys have scored 64% of their goals in the final 45 minutes of their matches.
