Ipswich Town host Barnsley at Portman Road this weekend aiming to get back to winning ways after seeing their recent upturn in form curtailed by a couple of disappointing results.

Paul Jewell’s men come into the game after a 2-1 defeat away at Watford and then a midweek draw with Middlesbrough on home soil, which has surely snuffed out their faint hopes of a play-off place.

With odds of 3/5 in bwin’s 3Way football betting market, Ipswich are widely expected to take full advantage of Barnsley’s poor away form – they have lost their last six Championship games on the road – and pick up the three points.

The Tractor Boys also have a slight edge in their head-to-head record with the Tykes, with five wins and two draws in the last ten meetings.

Punters who believe Barnsley will come away with a win can back them at odds of 17/4, while a sharing of the spoils is priced at 14/5.

There has been a total of 130 goals in the Tractor Boys’ games, with 82 of them arriving in the second half, while the Tykes have also conceded more goals after the break than before it (39 compared to 23).

However, considering that Keith Hill’s men have failed to even score in their last five trips, there looks to be plenty of value in backing Ipswich to win without conceding at 37/20.

Yes, the team from Suffolk have the worst defensive record in the Championship, having shipped 68 goals already, but they have actually kept clean sheets in three of their last five games at Portman Road.

New customers can claim a free £25 bet upon joining bwin.com and placing this on Ipswich to win to nil would return £71.25 if successful.

Another bet that looks likely to come in is for there to be more goals in the second half than the first at odds of 11/10.

There has been a total of 130 goals in the Tractor Boys’ games, with 82 of them arriving in the second half, while the Tykes have also conceded more goals after the break than before it (39 compared to 23).

It would be wrong to finish without mentioning the previous meeting between the sides earlier in the season – a madcap affair at Oakwell which finished 5-3 to Jewell’s side.

If you think there will be more than five goals again in this fixture, you can find odds of 18/5 on this eventuality.

Recommended bets:

More goals in the second half than the first @ 11/10                                         Ipswich to win to nil @ 37/20
