Blackpool will try to make it three wins from three when they host Derby County on Wednesday night and look good to justify their status as 7/10 favourites.
The Tangerines were fortunate against Hull but impressed in their first home game and deserved the victory over Peterborough.
Meanwhile, Derby’s defence is in a desperate state. Five centre-backs are currently on the treatment table and the Rams have turned to 18-year-old academy prospect Mark O’Brien in their two games so far.
New signing Jason Shackell has impressed at the heart of defence but was forced to play against Watford with a back strain which clearly troubled him in the latter stages.
While a sterling effort was required to keep Watford out, Blackpool are a tougher prospect.
Last time the Tangerines were in the Championship they scored more goals at home than any team outside of the top two. Ten of their 13 victories on home soil were won by more than a one goal margin.
On the other hand, Derby have been consistently amongst the league’s worst travellers during Nigel Clough’s tenure.
Of their 12 away defeats last season, seven were by more than a one-goal margin and Blackpool should cover a goal handicap at 17/10.
Only four teams scored fewer goals on the road than Derby last season and they look short in the attacking department.
Meanwhile, Blackpool’s new signing Kevin Phillips will relish a starting berth at the age of 38 and contributed a match-winning brace at the weekend.
Derby’s bright start should not delude punters interested in the away win at 17/5 or the draw at 14/5. They won their first away game of the 2010/11 season but then went on a dreadful run and had to wait a further seven games before they tasted victory again.
Blackpool managed clean sheets in their two 2009/10 meetings with the Rams and odds of 11/5 on the Tangerines winning to nil is well worth a punt. Those joining up to take advantage of the £25 free bet would find themselves £80 better off.
