Birmingham City are 7/10 to give Chris Hughton his first win as manager as they play host to Midlands rivals Coventry City.
The Blues were unlucky to go down 2-1 to Derby County on the opening weekend, while Coventry shot themselves in the foot by joining Leicester City on ten men towards the end of the first-half and going on to lose 1-0.
The Sky Blues also played in midweek, losing 3-1 to League One Bury in the Carling Cup. Meanwhile, Birmingham were given a bye due to their Europa League commitments.
As with any local derby, a draw is always the most obvious option (23/10), and with the Blues’ main three strikers injured (Cameron Jerome, Nikola Zigic and ex-Coventry man Marlon King) there is a question mark over where their goals will come from.
Coventry finished 18th in last season’s Championship, despite having a goal difference of just -4, indicating their matches were tight and often won by the odd goal.
Coupled with that, Birmingham were renowned for winning 1-0 under former boss Alex McLeish and that result can be taken at odds of 6/1.
Punters who use their free £25 bet for joining bwin to back Birmingham to prevail 1-0 could win £175 if the wager comes in.
This will be the first game at home for new Birmingham boss Hughton and he will be hoping to get a win under his belt at St Andrew’s.
Therefore, with Coventry likely to try and keep things tight, it could be a tense first-half, meaning value may well lie with a half-time/full-time prediction.
A draw at half-time, with Birmingham winning at full-time, is available at generous odds of 17/5.
Last time these two clashed in the Championship, Coventry took all three points away from St Andrew’s after a solitary Clinton Morrison goal.
A Sky Blues win is priced at 7/2, but if you fancy a repeat of that 2008 scoreline, it can be taken at 10/1.
