Two teams with contrasting aims for the season meet at Coventry’s Ricoh Arena tomorrow, with visitors Leicester favourites to take all three points in bwin’s 3Way football betting market.
While Coventry relegation odds of 37/20 suggest they will spend the next ten months battling the drop, Leicester title odds of 4/1 indicate they will be in occupying one of the automatic promotion spots come May.
Former England manager Sven Goran-Eriksson has certainly been doing his utmost over the summer to ensure the Foxes have the best possible chance of going up.
The likes of Paul Konchesky, Matthew Mills, Sean St Ledger, Lee Peltier and Kasper Schmeichel have been bought at great expense.
Meanwhile, Neil Danns and David Nugent have arrived on frees and Gelson Fernandes and Michael Johnson have been brought in on loan.
With this in mind, Leicester already look good bets to pick up three points against Coventry in their first game of the new campaign.
The Foxes are priced at 19/20 to win, with a Coventry victory available at 5/2 and a draw at 11/5.
Coventry have had a quiet summer in comparison to Leicester, and they will be hoping this is their saving grace.
Leicester’s summer rebuilding is not yet complete – Eriksson is looking to add another striker to his squad – and with so many new arrivals, there is a chance the Foxes will be vulnerable at the beginning of the season.
However, Leicester’s performances so far this summer suggest they are gelling well as a team, with a 0-0 draw against Bursaspor and a narrow 1-0 loss to Spanish giants Valencia illustrating their defensive solidity.
As such, betting on Coventry to fail to score at odds of 31/20 could pay dividends.
And with former England striker Nugent likely to cause the Coventry back-line problems, a 2-0 win to Leicester at odds of 35/4 looks an attractive option.
