Rangers are viewed as an outside shot in the betting for the final fixture of their pre-season tour of Germany tonight against Bayer Leverkusen.
The Scottish giants suffered an embarrassing 1-0 defeat to minnows Sportfreunde Lotte last week in Ally McCoist’s first match in charge since taking the reins from Walter Smith.
They followed that up with a goalless stalemate against Bochum and with their SPL opener against Hearts just ten days away, the Gers are in need of a boost at the BayArena.
However, Leverkusen are an accomplished outfit who finished second in the Bundesliga last term and can call on the services of stars such as former Chelsea midfielder Michael Ballack.
Bwin prices the Germans as 1/2 favourites to win the match, with the draw available at 31/10 and Rangers rated at football betting odds of 4/1.
Forward Steven Naismith admitted that Leverkusen will present a tough challenge but suggested that his team-mates are determined to conclude the tour on a positive note.
“The two games we have out here have been quality but I’m sure Leverkusen will provide our toughest test yet,” he said in an interview with the club’s official site.
“We’ll have to tighten up at the back and hopefully we can get off the mark ourselves by scoring goals as well.”
It is certainly hard to imagine anything other than a Leverkusen victory, but Rangers betting fans will be buoyed by their opponents’ modest home record in the Bundesliga last year.
The German side only won nine of their 17 matches in front of their own supporters, conceding 24 goals in the process.
This suggests that Rangers could finally break their duck on the tour and makes the 53/100 betting odds on both teams to score seem more tempting.
Similarly, over 2.5 goals may attract attention at 1/2, while punters who believe four or more goals will be scored can back this outcome at odds of 5/4.
Either way, McCoist will be hoping for signs of improvement before his troops head back to the UK to complete their pre-season preparations with trips to Linfield and Blackpool.
Recommended bet: Leverkusen to win at 1/2
