Another week of European football has passed us by, meaning it is time once again for the exciting action from the Premier League, La Liga and most importantly the Bundesliga.
This week sees big goal backings for Bayer Leverkusen, Hannover 96 and VfB Stuttgart. Goalscorer bets are also on offer with Kevin Grosskreutz, Andres Ivanschitz and of course Mario Gomez to the fore.
Alternatively a 1-1 draw for Hamburg or two second half goals in the Schalke game could be the ones to put a smile on your face this weekend.
Friday, 18th November
Bayer Leverkusen v Hoffenheim (7.30pm)
Home win: 18/25 Draw: 27/10 Away win: 18/5
Betting tip: Bayer Leverkusen have a good record against Hoffenheim in recent seasons. In their six previous meetings, Leverkusen have won five and drawn once, so confidence should be high going into this game at the BayArena. Robin Dutt’s men have enjoyed goals aplenty in recent weeks, with an average of two scored and one conceded in their last four Bundesliga matches. All of which makes odds of 31/20 on Bayer Leverkusen winning with over 2.5 combined goals being scored particularly tempting. Those taking advantage of Bwin’s free £25 bet for registering could be left happy with potential winnings of £63.75 for a punt on this outcome.
Saturday, 3rd December
Kaiserslautern v Hertha Berlin (2.30pm)
Home win: 27/20 Draw: 12/5 Away win: 37/20
Betting tip: Hertha Berlin have made a good start on their return to the Bundesliga and look set to avoid the drop this season. But while confidence may be high with the Berliners, an away trip to Kaiserslautern represents a tricky prospect. In truth, Hertha’s form away from the Olympic Stadium has lacked consistency with a 2-2 draw with Freiburg, a 3-2 victory over Wolfsburg and a 4-0 defeat at the hands of Bayern Munich the results of their last three games on their travels. But although those results may not add up to much in terms of form, they do make odds of over 3.5 combined goals an intriguing prospect at 11/5.
Borussia Monchengladbach v Borussia Dortmund (2.30pm)
Home win: 9/4 Draw: 5/2 Away win: 11/10
Betting tip: Borussia Monchengladbach’s face off against Borussia Dortmund represents the biggest game of the Bundesliga weekend, with first against second. Gladbach’s home advantage makes this a difficult one to call with the home side in imperious form in the league. Borussia Dortmund are on an even better run though, with Jurgen Klopp’s men back on top after a string of impressive wins. All of which makes a correct score bet risky. That said, one pattern did emerge from last season’s two encounters between these teams, with Kevin Grosskreutz scoring both home and away for Dortmund. You can get odds of 11/4 on Grosskreutz being on the scoresheet at anytime in the game and for our money that looks the safest bet to go for.
Bayern Munich v Werder Bremen (2.30pm)
Home win: 31/100 Draw: 17/4 Away win: 31/4
Betting tip: Despite the recent weeks of drama for Bayern Munich, it is important to remember that prior to their narrow 1-0 defeat at the hands of Borussia Dortmund, FC Hollywood were enjoying a fantastic run at home in the Bundesliga, with striker Mario Gomez on fine form with back to back braces. The visit of Werder Bremen could be the perfect catalyst to those free scoring days, with Thomas Schaaf’s men notoriously shaky on defensive duties away from home. Last time out, Bremen were hammered 5-0 by Borussia Monchengladbach. With such a porous backline facing up to the Bundesliga’s top scorer, the winner is like to be Gomez with the striker available at odds of 7/2 to grab at least two goals.
SC Freiburg v Hannover 96 (2.30pm)
Home win: 7/5 Draw: 12/5 Away win: 9/5
Betting tip: Neither Freiburg nor Hannover 96 come into the game on the back of a particularly strong run of form, with just one win in six for both in the Bundesliga. In terms of the season at large, Hannover 96 edge it, with Mirko Slomka’s team enjoying a fine start to the season up until their win over Bayern Munich. That said, they do have an impressive recent goalscoring record against SC Freiburg with three goals scored home and away last season. Given SC Freiburg’s plight, odds of 19/4 on Hannover 96 scoring three or more goals is a fine bet for those looking to take a chance.
VfL Wolfsburg v Mainz 05 (2.30pm)
Home win: 13/10 Draw: 12/5 Away win: 19/10
Betting tip: Wolfsburg’s defeat at the hands of lowly Augsburg highlighted the continued unpredictability of Felix Magath’s side who have now won just one of their last five league games. In comparison, Mainz 05 have been enjoying a timely return to form. Much of this has stemmed from the work of players like midfielder Andreas Ivanschitz who has scored in back to back wins for Mainz in recent weeks. Given the current boost in confidence for the visitors, the Austrian, who often takes set pieces, could be one to watch for an anytime goalscorer bet at odds of 11/4.
VfB Stuttgart v Cologne (5.30pm)
Home win: 12/25 Draw: 17/5 Away win: 5/1
Betting tip: Cologne may be an impressive force at home, but on the road they continue to endure the kind of form usually associated with teams flirting with relegation. Their last three away games have seen them concede 11 goals, eight of which have been let in before half time. Stuttgart will be keen to return to winning ways following their away defeat to Borussia Dortmund, with the likes of Martin Harnik, who grabbed a double in their last home game, in fine form. With Cologne showing a penchant for conceding early goals, odds of 19/2 on the home team scoring three or more in the first period could be worth a small punt.
Sunday, 4th December
Hamburg v Nuremburg (2.30pm)
Home win: 91/100 Draw: 5/2 Away win: 14/5
Betting tip: Hamburg’s recent revival in form stuttered slightly last weekend after a 1-1 draw with Hannover 96. But in truth the result reflected a more recent tendency on the part of Thorsten Fink’s side to pick up draws instead of wins, which provides little relief to their current Bundesliga position. In their last five league games, Hamburg have drawn 1-1 three times and with Nuremburg averaging a single goal a game in their last six matches, it could make a sensible final score bet with odds of 11/2 on offer.
Schalke 04 v Augsburg (5.30pm)
Home win: 7/20 Draw: 4/1 Away win: 27/4
Betting tip: Schalke 04 continue to provide a major goal threat in the Bundesliga thanks to the work of strike pairing Raul and Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, particularly at home. However, the bet to watch against Augsburg could be exactly two goals being scored in the second half. This has been the case in Schalke’s last three home games, making odds of 12/5 on exactly two goals being scored after the interval the stand-out option.
