In addition to the Bundesliga top goalscorer betting market, bwin is offering a number of related specials. Rather than bet on who will score the most goals out of the entire division, punters can assess the chances of two players in a goalscoring head-to-head. The following markets are on offer:
Who will score the most goals in Bundesliga 2011/2012?
Mario Gomez: 3/5 Arjen Robben: 29/20 Tie: 12/1
Gomez won the Bundesliga Golden Boot last year with 28 goals, although his teammate at Bayern had a better goals-to-games ratio. However, with Robben’s alarmingly injury-prone ways showing no sign of going away, the chances are he will be unable to make enough appearances to threaten Gomez’s supremacy.
Lucas Barrios: 4/5 Cacau: 11/10 Tie: 12/1
Barrios has scored more than 15 league goals in each of the two seasons he has been at Borussia Dortmund, averaging more than a goal every other game since his move from Chilean club Colo-Colo. Meanwhile, Cacau had a good season for Stuttgart in 2009-10, scoring 13 times in 25 league appearances. That said, he only bagged eight in 27 league outings last time around, suggesting Barrios is the best bet in the head-to-head.
Papiss Demba Cisse: 4/5 Srdjan Lakic: 11/10 Tie: 12/1
Cisse was second to Gomez in the top goalscorer chart last season, although his side Mainz are expected to find their second season back in the top flight more difficult from the first. Lakic, on the other hand, could improve on his total of 16 goals from 30 Bundesliga starts after moving from Kaiserslautern to ambitious Wolfsburg. The Croatian could therefore be a good outside bet at odds of 11/10.
Stefan Kiessling: 19/20 Milivoje Novakovic: 19/20 Tie: 11/1
Kiessling scored 21 league goals in the 2009-10 season, which was good enough for second place in the Golden Boot standings. His form took a hit last season though, with just seven goals scored in 22 appearances. Novakovic had his blip two years ago, with his six league goals sandwiched by returns of 16 and 17 goals in 2009 and 2011. His strike-rate of 0.71 goals per league game was particularly impressive last season, suggesting he is the best bet to edge this evenly-matched head-to-head.
Klaas-Jan Huntelaar: 4/5 Lukas Podolski: 11/10 Tie: 12/1
Two seasoned campaigners face off in this head-to-head, with the well-travelled Klaas Jan Huntelaar the slight favourite to edge Germany’s Lukas Podolski. Huntelaar moved to Schalke before the start of last season but only managed eight league goals. That said, his time at Ajax, Real Madrid and AC Milan suggests it is only a matter of time before he kicks into gear. Meanwhile, Podolski bagged 13 goals for FC Koln last season but this was his highest ever league return. Expect Huntelaar to outshine his Koln rival.
Shinji Kagawa: 4/5 Mario Gotze: 11/10 Tie: 12/1
Two of the best young players in the Bundesliga, Kagawa and Gotze scored a respective six and eight goals for Borussia Dortmund last season. However, Kagawa’s stats were far more impressive given he missed much of the season through injury. The Japanese playmaker broke a metatarsal during the 2011 Asia Cup and only managed 17 league appearances for Dortmund last term. With Gotze appearing 29 times in the Bundesliga, his Japanese teammate looks well placed to beat him again this time around.
Mario Mandzukic: 4/5 Igor de Camargo: 23/20 Tie: 10/1
Both players scored eight goals in their first full seasons in the Bundesliga last year as they helped their teams battle relegation. But with Wolfsburg expected to challenge higher up the table than Borussia Monchengladbach this season, Mandzukic can be expected to be more prolific in front of goal.
