Bayern Munich face an early test of their mettle as they take on talented but unpredictable Wolfsburg in the Volkswagen Arena.
The visitors are clear favourites in bwin’s 3Way football betting market with odds of 83/100, whereas outsiders Wolfsburg are a mere 29/10, and a draw is forecast at 13/5.
Bayern go into this clash on the back of their shock 1-0 home defeat to Borussia Monchengladbach in this season’s curtain raiser, whereas Wolfsburg enter the second fixture of the 2011/12 season after their impressive 3-0 away victory against Cologne.
Jupp Heynckes’ men line up as favourites in spite of their opening-day howler, largely thanks to their impressive run of results against their Saxony-based rivals. Bayern have emerged victorious seven times in the last ten meetings with Wolfsburg in all competitions.
Wolfsburg’s only win in the last ten fixtures was a 5-1 drubbing at the Volkswagen Arena en route to their Bundesliga title success in 2009. A draw at half-time followed by Bayern Munich winning in the second-half is priced at a generous 17/4.
Arguably the best correct score odds are on Bayern to win 2-1, which is an excellent 35/4. In terms of goal scorers, the most promising bet is French winger Franck Ribery at 5/2 to score at any time for Bayern. Last season’s Bundesliga top scorer Mario Gomez is 4/5 to score in this encounter, and Gomez is also a juicy 3/1 to be top scorer in the Bundesliga again this season. Bayern Munich are clear favourites to clinch the Bundesliga title at 83/100.
Heynckes faces the possibility of being without Dutch star Arjen Robben, who faces a late fitness test. Much of the attention on this eagerly anticipated fixture will be on ex-Bayern and current Wolfsburg manager Felix Magath, who is without Dane Thomas Kahlenberg and German international Arne Friedrich. Wolfsburg have also dropped ex-Juventus midfielder Diego and Breno is ruled out for Bayern.
With all eyes on this encounter, it will be a competitive and dramatic battle. Bayern are expected to emerge as winners despite being the away side, and the pre-season title favourites should have enough in the tank to take all three points.
