Brentford vs Bournemouth: Bees value to still advance

Kick-off: 1230, 22/05/2021

Stadium: Brentford Community Stadium

TV: Sky Sports

It is advantage Bournemouth as they continue to bid to bounce straight back from last season’s relegation.

The Cherries take a 1-0 lead into the second leg of their Championship play-off final against Brentford.

Arnaut Danjuma’s goal currently separates the sides. The Dutchman settled a tight first leg by starting and finishing a flowing breakaway move 10 minutes into the second half.

But Brentford’s third-place finish gives them the advantage of playing the second leg at home and we reckon they have got enough about them to turn the tie around.

The Bees are attractively priced at 27/20 to reach the Wembley final and that is our first Brentford vs Bournemouth prediction.

A look at Brentford’s betting odds

Brentford substitute Bryan Mbeumo wasted a golden chance to restore parity ahead of Saturday’s return match in West London when he somehow diverted wide of an open goal 12 minutes from time.

Boss Thomas Frank also felt his side should have had an early penalty when Adam Smith challenged Tarique Fosu-Henry.

But Frank remains confident going into the second leg, stating: “It was an even game between two very good teams that both tried to get on top of the game.

“I think a draw was the result it should have been. But in a tight game, we know it’s the small margins that will decide the game.

“Losing our structure, focus on the biggest threat they have – the counter attacks – gave them the first goal.

“That was a bit where we need to do better. And it’s a massive chance for Bryan Mbeumo, it doesn’t get any bigger.

“There is plenty of time to turn this around. We have 90 minutes to do that and that will be more than enough time.”

Brentford to win without conceding is 21/10.

Elsewhere from the 11/2 to open the scoring.

Last Brentford line-up: Raya, Pinnock, Roerslev, Norgaard, Canos, Jansson, Jensen, Janelt, Fosu-Henry, Forss, Toney.

A look at Bournemouth’s betting odds

Cherries manager Jonathan Woodgate admits his team still have plenty of work to do to set up a Wembley meeting with either Swansea or Barnsley.

“It’s half-time, we’ve got a slight advantage, but we know we’ve got it all on going to Brentford,” he said.

“We know how good they are at home, we know how good their players are.

“They’ve been in this situation before, they’ve had that experience. It’s far from over.”

Bournemouth’s chances have been hit by a knee injury suffered by captain Steve Cook which could rule him out of the second leg.

Dominic Solanke, who saw a first-half header strike a post in the first leg, is 21/10 to net at any time, which may be worth a saver for our Brentford vs Bournemouth betting tips.

Bournemouth are 8/15 to advance to Wembley.

Last Bournemouth line-up: Begovic, Cook, Kelly, Carter-Vickers, Smith, Brooks, Lerma, Pearson, Billing, Danjuma, Solanke.
