With just one win in ten matches (a 2-0 victory over Armenia), Serbia could leave their opening World Cup 2014 qualifying clash against Scotland with no points and a huge dent in their goal difference, even with Nemanja Vidic leading the Serbs at the back.
And it could well be Kenny Miller, once again, who leads the charge for the hosts. The former Rangers and Celtic striker has just moved to Vancouver to play his football in the MLS, but with 16 goals in 60 internationals, the veteran front man is a known threat when the Hampden crowd roars. He is priced at 6/1 to score the game’s first goal, while the odds are 17/10 for him to score at any time.
New Blackburn signing Jordan Rhodes also appears to be in the mood for a goal. He has three to his name already this season – just one less than Cristiano Ronaldo, as it goes – and one of those goals came in the Scots’ win over Australia last month.
He scored the first for Craig Levein’s side that day and is 6/1 joint favourite with Miller to score the game’s first on Saturday, while also being 17/10 to score at any point in the 90 minutes.
Shaun Maloney is a little more of an outsider to score first, at 9/1, but after notching the first goal in Wigan’s Premier League draw with Stoke last week, the diminutive playmaker certainly looks worth a goalscoring punt.
The Serbs will be counting on Partizan Belgrade striker and debutant Marko Šćepović to put the visitors in front and at 15/2 to break the deadlock, he may be worth a fiver. He has an impressive international record at the lower levels, scoring five goals in the six games he played for the Under 19s.
With just three goals in nine games, however, Serbia have been struggling up front and may not even score in the match. The odds on a Scotland clean sheet are 7/4 and this price looks very tempting given the poor goalscoring record of the Serbians in the last year.
Recommended bet: Kenny Miller to score against Serbia @ 17/10
