Copa America semi-finalists Chile take on France in what promises to be a high-quality encounter in Montpellier.
Given the match comes just a few weeks after the conclusion of South America’s equivalent of the European Championship, this could be mistaken as a meaningless friendly for Chile.
However, there is no time for respite as the qualifying campaign for the 2014 World Cup begins for la Roja in October, meaning the France friendly will serve as a useful barometer for coach Claudio Borghi.
Meanwhile, France are preparing for Euro 2012 qualification matches against Albania and Romania in early September, with coach Laurent Blanc expecting a “good test” from Chile ahead of those games.
With both teams taking the game seriously and Chile ranked 11th in the world by Fifa and France 15th, a close 3Way football betting market could be expected.
However, France have been installed as 39/50 favourites by bwin, with a draw priced at 12/5 and a Chile win available at odds of 7/2.
This will have much to do with the recent form shown by les Blues, who have not tasted defeat since 3rd September last year.
After losing to Belarus in the first game of their Euro 2012 qualification campaign, Blanc’s side have won or drawn their ten subsequent matches.
This run includes victories over England and Brazil and in only one of those games have France failed to score.
As such, France look good bets to find the back of the net this evening at odds of 1/5.
That said, there are unlikely to be too many goals at the Stade de la Mosson, with seven of Chile’s last ten matches containing two goals or less.
At odds of 13/20, a successful £25 free bet on there to be fewer than three goals, available to new customers who sign up for a bwin account, would return £41.25.
Nevertheless, France can be expected to edge the match given Chile’s disappointing showing in the 2011 Copa America.
La Roja were knocked out by Venezuela in the quarter-finals despite, at that stage, being many people’s favourites to win the tournament.
