Montpellier defender Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa and Lyon Midfielder Yoann Gourcuff have been left out of the France Euro 2012 squad as Laurent Blanc named his final 23-man party this morning.
Uncapped Yanga-Mbiwa had been a surprise addition, particularly as he kept Mamadou Sakho out of the provisional squad, despite an injury to Younes Kaboul that ended his chances of featuring in the tournament.
He had, however, impressed in helping his side pip Sakho’s PSG to the Ligue 1 title this season.
The omission of Gourcuff does not come as a major shock after there were questions raised regarding whether he would even make the provisional squad following a rather underwhelming season with Lyon.
Blanc had originally named a 27-man squad, but injuries to Kaboul and Marseille forward Loic Remy meant his decision on who to cut from the squad was reduced to two players.
That means there was a place for Newcastle playmaker Hatem Ben Arfa, who made his first appearance for the national side since August 2010 in the 3-2 defeat of Iceland on Sunday evening.
In total, seven Premier League-based players will travel to Poland and Ukraine.
Next up for France is the visit of Serbia on Thursday evening, followed by a match against Estonia next Tuesday as they prepare for their first game of the competition against England a week on Monday.
Les Bleus are priced at 33/20 to collect all three points against the Three Lions and hand Roy Hodgson his first competitive defeat at the helm.
