Germany were mightily impressive in beating Holland in as comfortable a manner imaginable in a major tournament fixture and by the looks of things, the odds compliers at bwin were as impressed as the rest of us – Germany are now the clear outright favourites to win Euro 2012.
Joachim Low’s side have made a mockery of the ‘group of death’ by taking six points out of six, their 2-1 win over Holland following up a 1-0 victory over Portugal on Saturday, and as such the Germans have ousted Spain as the clear favourites to emerge from Poland and Ukraine as European champions.
Germany are 5/2, in from 29/10, after all but securing their place in the last eight.
Punters registering with bwin receive a free £25 bet and using this to back Germany to win Euro 2012 will return £87.50 if Low’s men end up lifting the trophy in Kiev on July 1st.
It is not mathematically certain, but it would take a strange set of results to see Germany eliminated and odds of 1/100 to qualify show just how unlikely that is.
They are 1/20 to win the group and just a point in their final group game against Denmark will be enough to finish top without relying on other results.
Another mover in the markets is Mario Gomez, who is now 6/5 favourite (from an ante-post 8/1) to finish the tournament as top scorer following his brace in the win over Bert van Marwijk’s team.
That double took the Bayern Munich man’s total to three goals following his winner against Portugal and he currently leads the top scorer table with Russia’s Alan Dzagoev (9/2), who has also netted three times.
And with Denmark looking far from solid at the back in their 3-2 defeat by Portugal, Gomez will surely have more chances to add to that tally on matchday three.
