Fabio Capello has emphasised the importance of England’s international double-header which starts against Bulgaria on Friday and continues with Wales at Wembley on Tuesday.
England lie top of their Euro 2012 qualification group, but only on goal difference from Montenegro.
As such, the Italian has targeted two wins from England’s next two matches to ensure his charges can travel to Montenegro for their final group G fixture in the strongest possible position.
Even if Montenegro also win their next two games, England’s goal difference is so superior that it is likely a draw would be enough to take them through to next summer’s finals in Poland and Ukraine.
“They are really important games. We play the last game against Montenegro and need to be top of the group before that because it will be a really difficult game,” the Italian confirmed.
“The stadium, the pitch, the fans will be really strong, which is why we need to do well in our next matches.”
The good news for Capello is that England are 1/2 favourites to beat Bulgaria on Friday, with their opponents priced at 23/4 in bwin’s 3Way betting market despite being the home team.
Meanwhile, the draw is available at 29/10.
Playing away from home could actually suit England, who have won their last three on the road but are without a victory at Wembley in their last four.
The fact Bulgaria were dismissed by England 4-0 last September also points to three points being picked by Capello’s men, with a similar scoreline priced at 37/2.
However many goals England manage, Bulgaria are unlikely to trouble Joe Hart at the other end.
They have managed to score just four goals in their last six games, suggesting England are good bets to keep a clean sheet at odds of 4/5.
With this in mind, the best bet could be on England winning to nil at odds of 23/20.
A successful £25 free bet on England to win to nil, available to new customers who sign up for a bwin account, would return £53.75.
Should this prove the case, Capello’s men will go into the match against Wales with every confidence they can pick up the second of the two wins their manager has decreed so important.
