Group A is the group of goals and all matters pertaining to it will be resolved by around 2:00 on Saturday morning, with nets expected to continue bulging on a regular basis right up until its final curtain.
Mexico face Ecuador in a match in which El Tri must win to qualify for the knockout rounds, before hosts Chile, featuring Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez, square up to Bolivia in Santiago.
Both matches are included in bwin’s 5/1 Combi+overs double, which cops if both games contain more than 2.5 goals.
It’s a price-boosted wager that seems certain to find the bullseye in such a goal-heavy section, read on if in need of further persuasion.
Mexico v Ecuador
The gaffe-prone Ecuadorian defence has been undermining their chances of progression from the outset and it’s difficult to imagine them shutting out a Mexico side who must win to give themselves the maximum chance of reaching the knockout stages.
Gustavo Quinteros’ outfit have kept just two clean sheets in their last ten outings and they’ve conceded two or more in both matches at the tournament so far.
Against a Mexican outfit that created more than enough chances to sink Chile in their 3-3 draw, their questionable rearguard is likely to be exposed to unbearable scrutiny.
However, their compelling, if ultimately insufficient, second half fight-back against the Bolivians showcased their genuine attacking threat and they should be able to pierce their opponents to help the Combi+ along.
Chile v Bolivia
Arturo Vidal and Eduardo Vargas have monopolised the goals so far for Chile, with three and two respectively and, along with Arsenal colleague Sanchez, they must be fancied to feast on a defence that has shipped at least twice in all bar two of their last nine outings.
If La Roja can’t land the overs alone then the inherent danger of their Marcelo Bielsa-inspired high-pressing style may well allow El Verde to contribute a consolation strike.
Mauricio Soria’s men proved they were more than up to taking such chances as they appear when racing into a 3-0 first-half lead against Ecuador last time out.
