Panama have been installed as the strong favourites in the football betting odds for their Gold Cup quarter-final against El Salvador after topping their group in the initial stages of the competition.
They have proved to be a surprise package at this year’s competition and won through in first place, despite being drawn with United States and Canada – who crashed out after a victory, a tie and a loss.
Finishing top of the group earned them the game against El Salvador, who qualified in third place from Group A with four points from their trio of matches.
It is therefore no surprise Panama have been given odds of 3/5 to knock out their central American rivals, which means a £20 bet on them at bwin.com will return £32 if they are victorious.
El Salvador are expected to be brushed aside comfortably by Panama so it may even be tempting to go for a clear result by two or three goals.
For those who think there will be plenty of exciting action, odds of 23/10 on there to be more than 3.5 goals would result in a return of £66 if it is an easy victory for Panama.
However, in the first goalscorer market, the most attractive option is perhaps El Salvador’s Rodolfo Zelaya. He is one of the leading strikers in the tournament so far, after he notched three goals in the group stage of the event.
He got a brace in the 6-1 win over Cuba that booked El Salvador’s place in the quarter-finals, so is in good form going into the match against Panama.
The favourites will be hoping that their main man Gabriel Gomez can come up trumps, after he bagged the winning goal in their shock 2-1 win over the United States in the group stage.
Blas Perez, the 30-year-old Panama legend, is another who the team will be looking for to make the difference against El Salvador and book a place in the semi-finals of the tournament.
This would be the first time they have ever made it into the last four of the Gold Cup, following exits at the quarter-final stage in the last two competitions.
