Chile will be relishing the occasion as they make their debut in the Olympic women’s football tournament.
Women’s football in Chile has enjoyed a huge upturn in fortunes in recent years, including finishing as runners-up at the Copa America in 2018.
They appeared at the Women’s World Cup for the first time last year and have steadily climbed the world rankings so will be determined to give a good account of themselves in Japan.
Chile qualified for the Olympics after beating Cameroon 2-1 on aggregate, playing out a goalless draw in the second leg to get the result they needed.
Two subsequent friendlies ended in a 1-0 defeat against Slovakia and a goalless draw with Germany which adds to the belief that Chile will be well organised but lack firepower.
