Marseille vs Feyenoord: Les Phoceens to fight back

Kick-off: 2000, 05/05/2022

Stadium: Stade Velodrome

TV: BT Sport

Marseille trail Feyenoord 3-2 from the first leg in Holland but showed enough to suggest they can turn things around on home turf in France.

Les Phoceens have won at Stade Velodrome in each of the past three rounds and look to have the creative flair to come through this tricky test.

We’re happy to take 2.1 for Jorge Sampaoli’s side to win on the night for our opening Marseille vs Feyenoord prediction.

Marseille Odds

Marseille showed good spirit to come from 2-0 down after 20 minutes in Rotterdam to level things up at half-time.

Senegal forward Ahmadou Bamba Dieng fired in from 25 yards out and Brazil midfielder Gerson pounced on a rebound.

A lack of concentration at the start of the second half allowed Feyenoord to get back in front, though.

Home keeper Ofir Marciano later made up for being at fault for both Marseille goals by saving well from Dimitri Payet.

Sampaoli needs to stamp out the individual defensive errors but, with Payet pulling the strings, Les Phoceens did seem capable of carving open the Dutch outfit.

Qarabag, Basel and PAOK have all tasted defeat here in this competition, although they did all grab consolation goals.

Looking at the Marseille vs Feyenoord odds, we like 3.5 for a home win and both teams to score again here.

Feyenoord Odds

Nigerian front man Cyriel Dessers took his tally to 10 in this tournament with a couple of opportunist strikes at De Kuip.

Young Colombia winger Luis Sinisterra enjoyed a bit of luck when his deflected shot crept in for the other goal.

Arne Slot was able to take advantage of Marseille’s high line to get runners round the back and that tactic could serve the Dutch side well again.

“We played well and scored three times, but we also saw that Marseille have many qualities,” commented the manager.

“You could say it’s a shame we didn’t win by a bigger margin, but at times we also got away with conceding more.”

That was a commendable effort by Feyenoord, but they were roared on by a raucous crowd in Rotterdam and it will be the exact opposite here.

Slot’s side only know one way to play, so it is hard to see them sitting back, which could just prove their undoing for once.

Payet should get chances to shoot from around the edge of the area and 6.0 for him to score first in the second leg completes our Marseille vs Feyenoord betting tips.
