Russia take on Czech Republic in the second Euro 2012 opening-day fixture – but who should your money be on in the goalscorer markets?
Aleksander Kerzhakov and Roman Pavlyuchenko are joint favourites, at 11/2, to score the first goal of the Group A match in Wroclaw, though it is the former who looks most likely to get on the scoresheet first.
Kerzhakov scored Russia’s opener as they beat Italy 3-0 last Friday and he netted his side’s only goal in a 1-1 draw with Uruguay a week earlier.
And the Zenit St Petersburg striker, who fired 23 goals last season, is priced at 3/2 to score at any point in the 90 minutes for the third consecutive Friday.
Pavlyuchenko scored three goals as Russia reached the semi-finals of the 2008 tournament and the former Spurs player, who is likely to come off the bench against the Czechs, could be an option as an 11/2 last goalscorer punt.
Dick Advocaat will also hope his Russian side can find goals from midfield during the tournament.
The man most likely to deliver appears to be Roman Shirokov, who scored a brace in the 3-0 Italy win, as well as scoring goals against fellow finalists Greece and Denmark in recent months.
This form makes him a cracking punt at 11/4 to get on the scoresheet at some point this evening, especially for new customers using their free £25 bet for registering with bwin.
Winnings of £93.75 would be on offer if the Zenit star does indeed hit the back of the net.
As for the Czechs, penalty taker Michal Kadlec could be the man to watch given that over a third of their goals over the last year have come from the spot.
The good news for punters is that Kadlec, the Czechs’ top scorer in qualifying, is a defender – so he is priced at an extremely tempting 9/2 to score in the match.
Having said that, it should be noted that Russia have conceded just twice in 11 games, so there may well be no Czech goalscorer in Wroclaw – a Russian clean sheet is given 5/4 odds and is well worth consideration.
And as for the goalscorer markets, focus your attention on both Kerzhakov and Shirokov as Advocaat’s men look to lay down a marker in Group A.
Recommended bet: Roman Shirokov to score at any time @ 11/4
Outside punt: Alexandr Kerzhakov to score the first goal @ 11/2
