After a spirited performance from ten-man Greece silenced the home Polish crowd in Euro 2012’s opening match, the Greek team should be full of confidence as they prepare to face Czech Republic.
Dimitrios Salpingidis’ equaliser stunned the National Stadium in Warsaw and earned Greece a 1-1 draw and a precious point. The odds are 9/4 for Greece to pick up another draw on Tuesday.
A penalty save denied the Greeks all three points on Friday, but they could have better fortune against a Czech side who were thumped 4-1 by Russia.
The Greeks defeated the Republic on their way to their Euro 2004 triumph by a goal to nil and odds of 27/4 on a repeat of that scoreline look tempting considering two of the four meetings between these two have ended in 1-0 Greek wins.
Despite their defeat, there were plenty of positives for Czech Republic coach Michal Bilek to take from the performance against the Russians.
The only other two encounters between the Group A opponents have been goalless draws, meaning Czech Republic have – quite incredibly – never scored against Greece.
That makes the case for a bet on a Greek clean sheet, at 2/1, and new customers to bwin.com could win a cool £75 from their free £25 bet if Kostas Chalkias does manage to keep the ball from crossing his goal-line in Wroclaw.
Another worthwhile bet could be on a low-scoring affair, given that only two goals have been scored in the four occasions these sides have played each other. The odds on fewer than 2.5 goals to be scored are 11/20 and history suggests this would be a smart bet.
But despite their defeat, there were plenty of positives for Czech Republic coach Michal Bilek to take from the performance against the Russians. His side had 50 per cent possession and as many shots on target as Russia; the only difference being the clinical finishing of Russia’s forwards.
The odds are 5/4 for Bilek’s side to deliver a victory in their second match in Poland and with the Czechs not losing three matches in a row since 2009/2010, expect them to avenge their two recent losses with a victory.
Recommended bet: Czech Republic to beat Greece @ 5/4
