Saturday, March 10th
Hearts v St Mirren (12.30pm)
Home win: 17/20 Draw: 11/5 Away win: 17/5
Key stat: St Mirren have drawn more than any other SPL team this season.
Betting tip: With both these sides needing replays in the previous round to make it to this point, it wouldn’t be a shock to see them having to battle it out again in Paisley. Given that St Mirren frequently share the spoils in the SPL, with draws in their last five matches, a bet on a tie, at 11/5, makes a lot of sense.
Ayr United v Hibernian (3.00pm)
Home win: 7/2 Draw: 5/2 Away win: 3/4
Key stat: These two met in the cup last season, with Ayr coming out on top by a 1-0 scoreline in a replay after a 0-0 draw in the first matchup.
Betting tip: After sharing just one goal over their two matches last year, we could be in line for another low-scoring affair at Somerset Park, especially with Hibs misfiring at the weekend in their 0-0 draw with St Mirren. A bet on under 2.5 goals in this one is given odds of 83/100.
Sunday, March 11th
Dundee United v Celtic (1.15pm)
Home win: 4/1 Draw: 27/10 Away win: 13/20
Key stat: United have conceded just once in their last six matches.
Betting tip: While Celtic have been on a terrific run of late, their 20-game winning streak ended in Aberdeen last week. With United’s defence in good form, it will be tough for the Hoops to score and they are priced at 17/4 to fail to do so. Neil Lennon will be desperate to keep dreams of a treble alive, however, and Celtic may well scrape a win. Therefore, a bet on a narrow 1-0 Celtic win, the result in their last game at Tannadice, could be worth a look at 13/2.
Motherwell v Aberdeen (3.45pm)
Home win: 6/5 Draw: 21/10 Away win: 23/10
Key stat: Of Aberdeen’s last nine matches, only one has had more than 2.5 goals.
Betting tip: Five home wins in a row make a Motherwell appearance in the semi-finals seem probable. Aberdeen will make it tough, however, and they haven’t conceded (or scored) many goals in recent weeks, making the 3/1 odds on a repeat of the 1-0 scoreline that saw Motherwell win the last time they hosted the Dons very appealing. Odds of 13/20 for under 2.5 goals to be scored should also interest punters.
