League One side Preston will be looking to bounce back from their weekend defeat to Leyton Orient with a win over Lancashire rivals Morecambe on Tuesday night.
Preston are making their first appearance in the competition for 11 years and their travelling fans will be looking for a comfortable win from their 28 mile trip up the M6.
However, Morecambe, League Two’s surprise package so far this term, will have other ideas and will be no pushovers at the Globe, something reflected in their price of 39/20 for victory in 90 minutes with bwin, with the draw at 12/5 and an away success at 11/10.
Both sides have enjoyed a good start to the season, sitting third in their respective leagues and having scored an average of two goals a game or more each.
This makes the safest bet one on there to be more than 1.5 goals in the match at odds of 4/25, although more attractive terms can be found elsewhere.
Preston certainly look the most likely to win through having won four of their last six games, while Morecambe have only won two fixtures during this time.
Phil Brown’s side are also third favourites to win League One at 11/2 with bwin so will prove to be tough opposition for Morecambe, even at home.
But with Morecambe having the best defensive record in League Two after only conceding nine goals in 11 games, Preston’s victory could be a narrow one.
Their last meeting, in the League Cup in 2009, ended with the Lilywhites thrashing the Shrimps 5-1 and Bwin are offering 16/1 on any other score, which covers a repeat performance, for those who fancy another show of domination from Preston.
But a more likely scoreline could be 2-1 to Preston, which takes into account Morecambe’s defensive solidity as well as the likelihood that the game will contain more than 1.5 goals.
At odds of 31/4, a successful £25 free bet on Morecambe to win 2-1 would return £218.75, with the free bet available to new customers who sign up for a bwin account.
