The FA Cup proper starts on Saturday and with a number of ties being played at 3pm, there are countless matches from which to choose our Goals Galore treble – but we’ve gone for Portsmouth v Notts County, Doncaster Rovers v Bradford Park Avenue and Metropolitan Police v Crawley Town.
If the three matches all produce three goals or more, punters backing them in a treble with their free £20 bet after registering with bwin could pocket winnings of £78.75 if successful.
We’re hoping that by keeping it simple and banking on Football League sides wearing the goalscoring boots against some part-time opponents – with the exception of a must-add all-League One clash (Pompey are basically part-time these days anyway, right?) – we can bring home another over 2.5 goals treble.
Read on to find out why these three games stand out from the raft of first-round ties on offer.
Over 2.5 goals in Portsmouth vs Notts County @ 3/4
Pompey started the season very poorly but have found their feet (and some players) in recent weeks and have actually scored in all but one of their home matches this season.
They scored three against Shrewsbury in their last Fratton Park fixture and have notched eight in their last four outings on the south coast, conceding four in the process.
Notts County, for their part, have failed to win their last two matches in the league, but the FA Cup could be a welcome distraction.
And despite that iffy recent form, the Magpies have scored six goals in their last two away games – a 2-1 win at Coventry and a 4-0 drubbing of Carlisle – and have also plundered two or more goals in all but two of their matches on the road this season.
Over 2.5 goals in Doncaster vs Bradford Park Avenue @ 1/2
Although Doncaster are hardly setting the world alight in front of goal in League One – a tally of 20 goals in 14 matches can only be described as reasonable – they should coast into round two and score a few goals to boot.
Donny have scored in all but one of their six home league matches so far this season but have only managed one clean sheet in that time. Bradford Park Avenue have a decent scoring record in the FA Cup thus far, winning both their matches 3-1, and have scored 19 goals in their last eight matches.
With 44 goals also scored in the famous non-league club’s 13 Conference North matches this season at an average in excess of three per game, the over 2.5 goal target should be met comfortably at the Keepmoat Stadium.
Over 2.5 goals in Met Police vs Crawley @ 1/2
The Metropolitan Police get their day in the sun against high-flying League One outfit Crawley and most people will hope they get hammered (only joking, officer – honest).
In truth, Crawley should prove far too strong but the hosts may well get a goal or two, having notched two or more in their last five home matches, also conceding nine in the process.
Crawley have scored 11 goals in their past six league matches and will be expected to improve that ratio at Imber Court and bring home a winning Goals Galore treble.
