Unless you’re a lower-league club looking for a payday, there are few more unwelcome FA Cup fourth-round draws than a visit to Manchester United.
The challenge of trying to stop Sir Alex Ferguson’s unquenchable thirst for trophies in a competition his side having surprisingly failed to win since 2004 now rests with Martin Jol’s Fulham.
The Whites were actually highly competitive on their last trip to Old Trafford back in August, falling to a narrow 3-2 defeat having taken an early lead through Damien Duff.
Before that their record was far from clever though, losing to United by a total of 21-2 on their previous eight trips.
That record sees United rightly installed as 7/25 odds-on favourites to make the fifth round inside 90 minutes, with Fulham as long as 35/4 and the replay 4/1.
Here, we take a look at five stats punters might not have seen and could help them find value in the market behind a probable United win.
5: Dimitar Berbatov has scored at least one goal a season in this fixture over the past four seasons, but all of them came in a red shirt. On his first return to Old Trafford, the Bulgarian is 7/2 to get on the scoresheet for Fulham.
6: The number of consecutive games in which Robin Van Persie has now scored for United. Having scored a last-minute equaliser against West Ham in round three, the Dutchman is 11/4 to get the final goal again.
6: Despite picking up a league-high 24 wins in all competitions this season, United have kept just six clean sheets in the process, making the multi-score win option of 2-1, 3-1 or 4-1 look attractive at 14/5.
12: The number of years since Man Utd lost a home FA Cup fourth-round tie (against West Ham). They have won their six ties since by an aggregate of 25-4. United to win with 0-2 handicap is priced at 19/10.
17: United and Fulham share the record for most games with over 2.5 goals in the Premier League this season, with 17 out of 23 meeting the criteria. Seventy-six of those have come before half-time and over 2.5 first-half goals is 16/5.
