Manchester United star Wayne Rooney is set to make a goalscoring return against West Ham United this evening if his previous performances against the Hammers are anything to go by.
Rooney has been missing from the Manchester United team since the Red Devils drew 1-1 with Swansea on December 23rd but is expected to return to the starting eleven this evening.
And while Robin van Persie could be rested if Sir Alex Ferguson chooses to rotate his squad, the inclusion of Rooney will surely send shivers down the spines of West Ham’s players, manager and supporters.
The 27-year-old has scored seven goals in his last five games against the Irons and, to make matters worse for West Ham, he was on good form before his lay-off.
Rooney has scored five times in his last five appearances for United and, given the form shown by Van Persie and Javier Hernandez in his absence, will be keen to put on a show on his comeback.
All this makes an anytime goal for Rooney tonight an interesting proposition – particularly as we’ve enhanced the odds to evens (2.0).
You can also get an enhanced 4/1 (5.0) on Rooney opening the scoring against Sam Allardyce’s men and an enhanced 6/4 (2.5) on United to win and Rooney to score.
The Red Devils are 13/50 (1.26) favourites to beat West Ham in 90 minutes, with the draw at 19/4 (5.75).
A West Ham victory at Old Trafford – which would be their first since 2007 – is priced at 35/4 (9.75) and, given Rooney’s record against the Hammers, this would be as much of a shock as the odds suggest.
