Everton manager David Moyes has attempted to lighten the burden of expectation on his players by highlighting Liverpool’s status as favourites to beat the Toffees in the all-Merseyside FA Cup semi-final scheduled for Saturday, April 14th.
After drawing 1-1 with Sunderland at Goodison Park, Everton beat the Black Cats 2-0 in the replay at the Stadium of Light last night to set up a last-four meeting with their city rivals at Wembley.
As Moyes has pointed out, the Reds are favourites to progress to a final against either Tottenham or Chelsea, and odds-on favourites at 57/100 at that.
Liverpool are also 9/10 to win the match in 90 minutes in bwin’s 3Way football betting market and will be boosted by the two league victories they have recorded over the Toffees this season.
However, rather than throwing in the towel, Moyes believes his side will be able to deal with the occasion in a manner befitting of the club and use their underdog tag to their advantage.
David Moyes: “The thing about Everton is they have got a history of being in finals, semi-finals, winning things.”
“Liverpool will be favourites. They have beaten us twice this year, haven’t they?” Moyes said after his side’s success at the Stadium of Light.
“They have to go into the game as favourites, and we will go there and play.
“But the thing about Everton is they have got a history of being in finals, semi-finals, winning things.
“Everton as a football club are used to it, [they’ve] been there many times before and this isn’t a strange place for them.”
Indeed, Everton have won their last six FA Cup semi-finals and are available at 5/4 to make it to the final.
This means a successful £25 free bet on the Toffees to see off their Merseyside rivals is set to return £56.25, with the free bet available to new customers who sign up for a bwin account.
