The FA Cup fourth round rolls into the Black Country this weekend and one of the more intriguing ties sees West Brom take on Norwich City in an all-Premier League encounter.
Both comfortably came through potentially tricky ties in the third round, with Roy Hodgson’s men seeing off Cardiff and the Canaries soundly thumping Burnley.
Now they face each other and when looking at the goalscorer markets for this one, the eye is immediately drawn to the East Anglian outfit.
Paul Lambert’s charges have scored an impressive 32 goals in the top flight so far this season – that’s the same as Newcastle and seven more than Liverpool.
The Baggies, on the other hand, have ‘bagged’ just 22, with only eight of those coming at the Hawthorns, giving them the lowest home tally in the top flight.
Looking at Norwich, you can see potential for goals all over the pitch, with ten different players finding the net this season. However, the obvious two come in the form of Steve Morison and Grant Holt.
The safest play is undoubtedly Morison but for me, the value here is in Pilkington grabbing the first goal of the game at 12/1. He’s always a danger in and around the box and very capable of getting on the end of set-pieces if he’s not having a shy at goal from them.
Morison has struck nine goals this campaign, with Holt just behind on eight, and they can be found at 3/2 and 9/5 respectively to trouble the scorers again on Saturday. You can also get them at 11/2 and 13/2 to bag the opening goal and 8/1 and 21/2 to fire at least a brace.
Elsewhere for the away side, Anthony Pilkington has been getting his fair share of goals this season, with five to his name already. The former Huddersfield midfielder is 13/4 to grab a goal at any time and a very tempting 12/1 to score the first of the game.
Other Canaries who you may wish to back as an outsider to score at any time are Wes Hoolahan (9/4), Simeon Jackson (5/2), Aaron Wilbraham (11/4) and Andrew Surman (4/1).
On the other side, it would be dangerous to entirely discount West Brom on the basis of their league form at home. They did fire an impressive four goals against League Cup finalists Cardiff in the previous round, after all
The Baggies’ main threat will surely come from top scorer Shane Long, with the Irishman helping himself to six goals so far this season.
The former Reading man is 7/5 to score at any time and the 5/1 joint favourite with strike partner Peter Odemwingie to score first. Odemwingie himself has five goals to his name and can also be found at 7/5 to score at any time.
Though often finding himself on the bench, Simon Cox may also have a pivotal role in this one, coming off the back of a hat-trick against the Bluebirds in round three. Cox is 9/5 to score at anyt ime, 13/2 to strike the opener and 40/1 to take the match ball home again.
Other potential Baggies goal-getters include James Morrison (3/1 any time), Somen Tchoyi (9/5), Marc-Antoine Fortune (2/1), Graham Dorrans (3/1), Jerome Thomas (3/1) and Paul Scharner (13/4).
The safest play is undoubtedly Morison but for me, the value here is in Pilkington grabbing the first goal of the game at 12/1.
He’s always a danger in and around the box and very capable of getting on the end of set-pieces if he’s not having a shy at goal from them.
