An injury to Micah Richards could dissuade football betting fans from backing Manchester City to reach the final of the FA Cup.
City take on local rivals Manchester United at Wembley but the right-back, who has been in impressive form, picked up an injury on international duty for the England U-21 side.
Although Stuart Pearce’s team won 4-0 in Denmark thanks to goals from Danny Welbeck, Scott Sinclair, Daniel Sturridge and Jordan Henderson, the match was overshadowed by Richards going off on a stretcher due to a problem with his hamstring.
The player himself, who was a surprise omission from the senior squad for today’s crucial qualifier against Wales in Cardiff, believes he could be a doubt for the FA Cup semi-final on April 16th.
With just three weeks to go until the big game at Wembley, Richards thinks he could be out of action for as long as a month.
“He’s got a hamstring problem and he’s diagnosed himself as being out for four weeks – that’s Dr Richards for you,” said Pearce.
“That could be four days though, as that’s him diagnosing himself.”
As well as the FA Cup semi-final against United, Richards could be ruled out of key Premier League matches against Sunderland and Liverpool.
Despite his absence, punters will still be looking to bet on Man City to beat the Black Cats next weekend at 1/2 with bwin.com.
But with the Citizens still in the running to qualify for next season’s Champions League by finishing in the top four, the injury could yet harm Roberto Mancini’s side’s chances of securing that place ahead of Tottenham Hotspur.
United are the early favourites for the FA Cup semi-final, but anyone who fancies City to spring a surprise and beat their bitter rivals within 90 minutes could be tempted by their betting odds of 5/2.
This means anyone who places a £10 bet at bwin.com on City would see a return of £35.
