Fulham face a potential FA Cup third-round banana skin as Blackpool visit Craven Cottage on Saturday afternoon, but will the Championship side be able to pull off a shock?
The bookmakers at bwin certainly don’t think so and make Fulham the favourites at 3/5, while the draw is 5/2 and Blackpool are out at 4/1 to progress to the next round.
Both these sides have struggled to a certain extent this season and the FA Cup could be a welcome distraction to their respective league campaigns.
Fulham are down in 13th in the Premier League following an encouraging 2-1 win against West Brom last week, while Blackpool sit 14th in the Championship table.
Martin Jol’s men have only won one of their last six home matches, against struggling Newcastle United, but they have failed to find the net just once in their last 15 games at Craven Cottage in all competitions.
The fact that Fulham are almost certain to score based on form makes the chances of an upset unlikely, but if Jol decides to rest some of his first team, Blackpool may well pick up at least a replay.
Admittedly, the Tangerines have lost two and drawn the other two of their previous four games and have only won three of their last 17 matches.
Their latest away game was a 4-2 loss to Middlesbrough but that was their first loss in six away matches, so it would surely be foolhardy to completely write off the Seasiders.
Over 2.5 goals looks a decent bet at 18/25, especially when you consider that 17 of Fulham’s 21 Premier League matches this term have contained three or more strikes, including eight of their ten outings at the Cottage.
Both teams to score perhaps looks an even safer bet at 7/10, but neither of these prices will be making anyone rich, so the value could be with Blackpool to hold on for at least a replay
You can get 23/20 on Blackpool not losing the match, a price that will bring winnings of £43 for new customers successfully backing it with their free £20 bet after registering.
Fulham’s form is too patchy to take their odds-on quote, particularly with question marks hanging over their team selection, so taking a chance on Michael Appleton’s visitors to frustrate them looks worthy of a small play.
Top bet: Blackpool to win or draw @ 23/20
