The ‘magic of the FA Cup’ might be rife this weekend, but at Bramall Lane it will be a clash of two sides who see a fourth-round tie as merely a distraction from league duties as Sheffield United host Birmingham City.
The Blades currently sit third in League One and despite last weekend’s 1-0 defeat at league leaders Charlton are in excellent form, with 11 victories in their last 13 matches in all competitions – largely thanks to the goals of in-form Ched Evans.
United have adapted well to life in League One under Danny Wilson and although a swift return to Championship football is this year’s ultimate aim, the former Sheffield Wednesday midfielder is hoping for a bumper crowd for this weekend’s clash.
Sheffield United are 17/10 to prosper in bwin’s 3way 90-minute market, with the draw at 9/4 and an away win priced at 31/20.
Visitors Birmingham are also in good league form. The Blues have succumbed to just one defeat in their last 11 matches and now sit sixth in the Championship table.
Goals from Curtis Davies (2) and Chris Burke secured a 3-0 victory over Watford on Saturday that saw the Midlands club take their place in the play-off positions.
Although a league trip to Leeds United on Tuesday is of far more importance to Chris Hughton’s men, the week’s first visit to Yorkshire could see Birmingham’s momentum continue with a passage to Sunday’s draw for the fifth round.
The Blues haven’t lost in their five FA Cup meetings with the South Yorkshire club and are well priced to continue this run.
Punters might be tempted by bwin’s handicap market, with Birmingham priced at 4/1 to win starting with a one-goal deficit. New customers using their free £25 bet could expect returns of £125 if Blues indeed win by at least two clear goals.
Alternatively, for football betting fans who believe the Blades will at least score in an eventual defeat, the away side to win either 2-1, 3-1 or 4-1 is priced at a very tempting 5/1.
