Tottenham Hotspur and Everton have both been handed unfamiliar yet demanding Europa League groups as Sevilla and Napoli head the outright betting following the draw in Monaco.
Spurs, who at 16/1 are an industry best price with bwin to lift the trophy in May, have been drawn in Group C with Besiktas, Partizan Belgrade and Asteras Tripolis after overcoming AEL Limassol in qualifying.
The Toffees, who went straight into the group stage courtesy of their fifth-place finish in the Premier League last season, are also an industry best 20/1 with bwin for Europa League glory after being handed the task of escaping Group H, which includes Lille, Wolfsburg and FC Krasnodar.
While Besiktas are the only side in Group C that the Lilywhites have previously met, Roberto Martinez’s side have never faced any of their Group H opponents before.
Mauricio Pochettino will no doubt have preferred to meet some familiar foes given the amount of travelling his Tottenham squad will be required to do. The trips to Turkey, Serbia and Greece will clock up over 10,000 air miles, making the Thursday-Sunday matchday routine even more gruelling. For their part, Everton will also travel over 7,000 miles.
Scottish champions Celtic, whose controversial Champions League qualifying campaign was finally ended by Maribor, are 100/1 to be celebrating in Warsaw. The Bhoys face Salzburg, Dinamo Zagreb and FC Astra.
Holders Sevilla and Rafa Benitez’s Napoli are the market leaders at 10/1 and 12/1 respectively, while Villarreal and Inter Milan are both priced up as 16/1 chances.
Any other team – those that fall out of the Champions League and into the safety blanket of the Europa League in the New Year – is quoted at 6/4. Three of the last six winners have been clubs that started their European campaign in the Champions League.
For the first time ever this season, the winners of the Europa League will be given a place in next year’s Champions League.
