Karpaty Lviv are strong favourites to beat Irish side St Patrick’s Athletic in the first leg of their Europa League third qualifying round despite a disappointing start to their domestic league campaign.
After three games in the Ukrainian Premier League, Karpaty are third from bottom in the table in 14th, just one place above the relegation zone and level on points with the side in 15th.
They have picked up just a single point so far following a draw and two defeats, while their form at the end of last season was also disappointing.
However, Karpaty are still priced at 1/10 to beat St Pat’s in bwin’s 3Way football betting market and pick up their first win in eight competitive games.
St Pat’s are in better form than their hosts this evening, although not by much.
Their last six games have seen two wins, two draws and two defeats, although their performances in the Europa League this season offer some encouragement.
Unlike Karpaty, who are making their debut in this year’s competition, St Pat’s have already played two qualifying ties.
They beat Icelandic outfit IBV Vestmannaeyjar 2-1 on aggregate before seeing off Kazakh side FC Shakhter Karagandy 3-2 over two legs.
With this in mind, punters could take advantage of odds of 15/1 on St Pat’s to beat Karpaty in the first leg and 12/1 on St Pat’s to advance to the next round.
Meanwhile, a draw in the first leg is priced at 25/4.
That said, the fact that Karpaty reached the group stage of the competition last year while St Pat’s were knocked out in the qualification play-offs when they last played in the Europa League in the 2009-10 season suggests that Ukrainian side should have too much for their Irish opponents.
Nevertheless, the fact that Shamrock Rovers only lost 1-0 away to Copenhagen earlier this week means St Pat’s could yet run Lviv close.
As such, the best bet could be on there being fewer than 1.5 goals in the match, which is available at odds of 17/4.
A successful £25 free bet on there being no more than one goal, available to new customers who sign up for a bwin account, would return £131.25.
