FC Sion visit Celtic Park this week as clear underdogs, with manager Laurent Roussey’s team given odds of 9/2 to leave Glasgow with a first leg win and odds of 51/20 to win the tie overall and qualify for the Europa League group stage.
Neil Lennon’s side, on the other hand, will be hoping to make up for last year’s embarrassing exit against Utrecht, where the Bhoys let a 2-0 home leg win slip.
They went on to lose 4-0 in The Netherlands, costing them a place in the tournament’s group stage.
With FIFA refusing to clear six of Roussey’s summer signings to play following a transfer ban imposed on the club, the FC Sion squad will be below strength when the tie kicks off.
Add to that this week’s capture of goalkeeper Fraser Forster by Lennon, on a year-long loan from Newcastle, and Celtic look certain to progress through the play-off stage this time around, priced at 1/4 to do so.
Fresh from an impressive 5-1 victory over Dundee United on Saturday, and given the fact that Roussey’s side have conceded more than a goal a game on average from their five league matches so far this season, Celtic should be expected to find the back of the net a few times in the match, their first against the team from southern Switzerland.
With this in mind, a bet on a 3-0 home win could prove great value at 19/2 with bwin.
The young FC Sion star Giovanni Sio has, however, been known to produce little pieces of magic and, with three goals this season already, could lead his team to at least a draw, which is priced at 29/10.
Sio’s attacking talents give reason to believe that both teams could score over the 90 minutes and at 22/25, a successful £25 free bet for new bwin customers on this outcome would win them £47.
