West Ham have an early chance to redeem their shock 1-0 home defeat against Cardiff on Sunday with a Carling Cup tie against Aldershot.
The Hammers, joint-favourites with Leicester to land the Championship crown and return to the Premier League at the first time of asking, had been expected to see off the Bluebirds in their league opener but went down to an injury-time winner from Kenny Miller.
Defeat continued the Irons’ run of being without a win since a 3-0 victory over Stoke on 5th March, with this sequence now lasting 11 matches.
However, this hasn’t stopped West Ham from being installed as 9/25 favourites to beat Aldershot in bwin’s 3Way football betting market, with victory for the Shots priced at 6/1 and a draw available at 33/10.
Regardless of their disastrous recent form, and even allowing for the fact they are likely to field a depleted side, West Ham should still have more than enough to beat a team who finished 14th in League Two last season.
Notable absences from the Hammers’ squad include Rob Green and Scott Parker, who are in the England set-up for the match against Holland on Wednesday, while Pablo Barrera, Jack Collison and Marek Stech are also on international duty.
Meanwhile, new signing John Carew is unlikely to be risked as he works his way towards full fitness.
Nevertheless, manager Sam Allardyce can still call on the likes of Mark Noble, Abdoulaye Faye and Carlton Cole if he sees fit.
With Premier League-standard players at his disposal, the former Blackburn boss should be able to mastermind a facile victory.
Aldershot’s poor record in front of goal will also help in this respect – only four sides scored fewer than the Shots in League Two last season.
As such, a bet on West Ham to keep a clean sheet at odds of 19/20 looks like it could pay dividends.
A successful £25 free bet on Aldershot failing to score, available to new customers who sign up for a bwin account, would return £48.75.
Alternatively, football betting fans could have a punt on there being more than 3.5 goals in the game at odds of 17/10 on the assumption that the Hammers will ease to victory.
