A draw and a defeat in their last two games almost constitutes a crisis for Manchester City these days, even if the two matches in question were tricky trips to Napoli and Liverpool.
For so dominant has been their form in the early stages of the season – particularly on the domestic stage – that they are expected to win every game they play, and win handsomely at that.
This evening’s game is less about past results and more to do with which players will be lining up on the night.
Odds on Man City in bwin’s 3Way football betting market suggest they should bounce back this evening in their Carling Cup quarter-final against Arsenal.
The Citizens are 5/4 favourites to win the game in normal time and odds-on at 57/100 to progress to the semi-finals.
This leaves an Arsenal win in normal time at 37/20 and the draw at 5/2, while the Gunners are at 5/4 to make it through to the last four.
But this will be no easy task for Roberto Mancini’s men. Arsenal are on a 28-match unbeaten run against Manchester City on their own ground in a stretch going back to a 3-2 defeat in October 1975.
City have also failed to score in their last three games against Arsene Wenger’s side.
Yet this evening’s game is less about past results and more to do with which players will be lining up on the night.
If the likes of Robin van Persie, Theo Walcott and Aaron Ramsey were guaranteed to start, then a bet on Arsenal to carry on their good run against the Citizens would prove tempting, particularly as a win to nil is priced at 9/2.
However, Wenger has revealed his star trio are suffering from fatigue, with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Yossi Benayoun, Park Ju-Young and Emmanuel Frimpong all set to start in a much-changed line-up.
City are also like to make significant changes, although as Wenger himself has noted the depth of Mancini’s squad means the Italian can still call on a star-studded side even if he chooses to make 11 changes from Sunday’s draw on Merseyside.
As such, it is the Citizens who go into this battle of the squads in the best shape, meaning a win for the away side is the best bet in bwin’s 3Way football betting market.
And Man City look good value to win in normal time at odds of 5/4, with a successful £25 free bet on the outcome set to return £56.25.

One final bet to consider is for Man City to be winning at half time and full time.
Mancini’s second string have been in front at the break in both of their Carling Cup ties so far this season, scoring two goals before the interval at home to last year’s winners Birmingham and three in the first 45 minutes away to Birmingham.
And Man City are priced at a tempting 5/2 to establish a half time lead at the Emirates this evening and go on to win the match in normal time.
