The Cardiff City Stadium plays host to what could be one of the most entertaining ties in this year’s Carling Cup second round as Cardiff and Huddersfield lock horns.
Both sides come in to the game on the back of solid starts to the season, with the home side having won two of their four games in the league to date, including successes over West Ham and Bristol City.
Huddersfield, meanwhile, are on a club record run of 29 regular-season league games unbeaten – not taking into account last season’s play-off final defeat to Peterborough – after beating Colchester 3-2 at the weekend.
Cardiff, bwin’s 3/4 favourites to win inside 90 minutes, have scored exactly two goals in seven of their last 20 games and notched four times in five of the other 13 games. Similarly, the Terriers have scored twice in five of their last 20 games and more than twice in nine of the other 15 games.
Although odds of 31/50 for both teams to score may seem short, this outcome must surely be a certainty and with a free £25 bet for new customers who join bwin.com, it could be an easy way to make an immediate profit.
Huddersfield will certainly be no pushovers and should make it difficult for their Championship opposition, but if City can manage to go into half-time in front, their past record suggests they will go on to win the game. They have won seven of the last nine games they have led after 45 minutes and odds of 37/20 in the HT/FT market for them to do just that seems good value.
With both teams not exactly goal shy, chances of a nil-nil look remote; while the draw inside 90 minutes is priced at 13/5, I’ll be getting on 3-2 to the home side at a massive 19/1 in what should be a thriller.
However, anyone who fancies an upset will be richly rewarded, with great odds of 7/2 on offer for the League One side to progress in normal time.
