Cardiff City are priced at football betting odds of 9/2 to win the Carling Cup after their dramatic semi-final victory over Crystal Palace last night.
Anthony Gardner’s header in the first leg had given Palace a 1-0 lead to take to south Wales, but the former Spurs defender put through his own net after just seven minutes to bring the scores level.
As we predicted in our betting preview, extra-time was ultimately required and Palace managed to hold on for the additional period despite the 78th-minute dismissal of skipper Paddy McCarthy.
Penalties ensued and City keeper Tom Heaton proved the hero, saving the visitors’ first two spot-kicks from Jermaine Easter and Sean Scannell as Malky Mackay’s men secured a 3-1 success in the shoot-out.
Cardiff will now face either Liverpool or Manchester City in the Carling Cup final at Wembley on February 26th – their fourth visit to the national stadium in as many years.
The Bluebirds defeated Barnsley in the 2008 FA Cup semi-final and then lost to Portsmouth in the final, while also succumbing 3-2 to Blackpool in the 2010 Championship play-off final.

Liverpool and City resume this evening at Anfield with the Reds holding a slender 1-0 advantage from the first leg after Steven Gerrard’s winner at the Etihad Stadium two weeks ago.
